A Miniature House and Garden Under a Cloche

The Sizzix Triple Play Blog Hop has begun!! I’m so excited!! I feel like I’ve been waiting FOREVER for this!!

It took me a while to decide what to do with my project for this week. Sooo many ideas!

Then I got to thinking about the coming winter weather. About the time the end of February comes around I’m so tired of snow and grey skies here in NE Ohio I just can’t stand it.

So I wanted to make something to remind me of Spring. Blossoms on the trees, green grass, tulips and pretty colors. Something I can set out toward the end of February in a place where I’ll pass by it often so that I can think of SPRING!! And then I remembered my blog post The Littles’ Have a Picnic and I knew I wanted to do something similar.

Here is what I did:

A Miniature House and Garden Under a Cloche

I started with a terra cotta dish and hot glued a circle of floracraft foam, that I cut in half through the middle, to the bottom.

 floral foam, moss, fern pins

I secured sheet moss to the foam with fern pins.

Mod Podge, K & Company papers, Sizzix Die Cut House

And with the help of my pal Mod Podge, K & Company paper Que Sera Sera, Smooch Inks (read a review of Smooch on my friend CraftTestDummies blog) and my Martha Stewart craft knife I covered the house with brightly colored papers.

sizzix die cut house, brush tip markers, K & Company

I used brush markers and ColorBox cats’ eye ink on the edges of the white mat board and the corners of the house.

I arranged a couple of branches of orchids to make them look like a tree in bloom and then I raided the miniatures aisle of the craft store. I simply glued everything in place. Except the fence … I made “U” shaped pins from floral wire and used them to secure the fence to the foam.

And I covered the whole thing with a large, glass cloche. Here is a close up. I love the little dog in the flower bed.

I LOVE the purple Smooch door. Don’t you?

I can’t wait to hop around and see what the other designers have created. You can go to the previous blog, the next blog or to the Sizzix home page by using the navigation buttons in the image at the top right column of this page.

If you want to make a die cut house like this you will need the following Sizzix supplies:

Sizzix ScoreBoards Pro Die – House, 3-D.

Sizzix 12×12 matboard, white

Sizzix Big Shot Pro die cutting machine

I love your ‘outside the box’ design! Also, being under glass would make the micro-climate warmer during the cold winter months. 🙂 Great job! Very creative!
