Changing Course

January 29, 2018

I wrote last week about my big mistake and what I learned from it. And ever since, I can feel the rusty, old wheels turning in my brain again. Slowly inching forward – but also changing course.

As you may have read I had stopped creating and even writing. And I love them both! I love writing what is floating around in my noggin even if I only write it in my morning pages. Not so much Step 1, Step 2, Step 3. But my morning pages I ADORE!

I also adore those things I want to make just because I want to make them. I made Kugelhopf just because I was remembering my time living in Germany and the recipe intrigued me.

I love making gifts for family and friends like these. Mixed Media Gift Boxes, Viactive Container Gift Box, and Studio De-stash Gifts.

I love the art/craft classes I teach locally. I plan to start sharing some of them with you.

I love making my own home decor items when I can, and I love my gardens, and critters.

What am I trying to say here?

I’m changing course on this blog. Just a bit.

I have hesitated to share the lessons I glean from a typical day or in the course of writing my morning pages because I didn’t think my vocabulary was up to it (In real life I drop F-bombs like shed hair), or that no one would want to read what I wrote because I’m just a “regular” woman.

But you all have been so lovely when I write what is in my heart. I find your comments deeply touching. I’ve come to realize that my heart and your heart are very similar.

  • We are all trying to find our way and become the best we can become
  • We are creative
  • We want to live a meaningful life
  • I don’t think any of us are “well off”
  • We want to be healthy and live a full life without killing ourselves in the process
  • We like deep, meaningful conversations
  • We like our time alone

I’m sure there is much, much more I could add to that list. (Feel free to add to the list in the comments below!)

But what I really want to say is that I plan to include some posts that are more like Journal Entries. Still some crafts, a recipe here and there, and maybe a post about the garden or rabbits but also – journal entries. Something I noticed during the day or gleaned from my morning pages.

So, if you are here for ONLY crafts you’ll still have those and you can skip the journal entries. OR you can read the journal entries and skip the crafts. It’s up to you. I will keep them separated even when a journal entry leads to a craft and vice versa.

My question is – how should I separate the journal entries so you can find them or skip them easier? Any ideas?

No need to separate anything! I love reading your blog whatever the topic and will continue to do so, whether you are sharing a recipe, a craft, gardening tips, or your deepest thoughts. Bring it and I’ll read it!

Awww thanks Charmaine! You made my day.

I’m with the ladies. I don’t think separating is needed. I’m interested in the whole you!

I can’t wait to read it all! No need to seperate for me. I don’t get to read everyday. So when I sit down to spend reading time, it’s a treat. Like you I am a person who likes to do many things, crafts, cooking, canning, sewing, reading, and more. My days determine what I might want to do… someto.es it is just “hell” getting older, lol.
You are an inspiration to me and many more! One of these days I will connect up just to have a cup a tea or glass of wine and pick your brain for all the things I am nosey about…in the meantime I get to read your blog. ???? Keep up the great everything!

Just a suggestion… if you want to organize the posts… perhaps.. colorize the post based on subject matter– craft posts in purple, food posts in orange, bunny and quail posts in yellow… (I’m waiting for the alpaca) I realize there might be technical issues with the different operating systems…. just a thought. I’d read them all regardless. Thanks.

I am not much of a “tech” person. I see no need to separate them. I love reading and taking it all in. Thank you.

I agree with Kris, you don”t need to break down your article but you can if you so desire give drop down sub titals for your different projects.
I enjoy your article and just like you I’m going through many changes in my life. I seem to drift from one project to the next. Wish I could complete one craft before starting another.
Your a lovely lady and your plate has been very full and I’m sure many of us can relate to that.
    Best of everything to you.
    God Bless
    Linda

I love both, so I will continue reading. I am in a changing phase right now too. Haven’t been much of a daily writer, so you inspire me to continue what I started a week ago.

I love your name Bax. Is it short for something else?
Thank you for sticking around. I hope we can all find some form of sisterhood here.
      Keep writing!

Yes, it is short for Baxanna. I was named after my father whose name was Baxter.

I love your writing!! Looking forward to seeing where you go with this. I don’t know how you would separate items – or why you would have to.

    • Vicki O'Dell January 30, 2018 at 2:16 pm

Thanks Sylvia, I think I write from the heart and you read from the heart. Works for us all!
Thanks for the input. I’m glad you are here.
      xoxo :O)

Do you need to separate them? If so, couldn’t you treat it as one of the aresa of interest and folks could click on it to view it or not? I don’t know how much tech juju that involves!! Oh, btw, as I’m typing this, the writing is so, so, so small that I need a magnifying glass to see what I’ve written. It is very strange. I love the idea, btw, of crafts and recipes and photos and journal entries —- it’s all stuff of substance and stuff that is relatable.

    • Vicki O'Dell January 30, 2018 at 2:17 pm

      Kris,
Maybe I don’t need to separate them. I just had it in my head that some people won’t want to read the journal entries. From looking at the comments… I was off on that one. 🙂
Huh, wonder why the type is small? I’ll check over my backend and see if I can find something.
      xoxo Vicki
