It's In the Details - Embroidered and Trimmed Pillowcases

Why, oh, why would you want plain pillowcases when for just a few extra dollars you could dress  your bed in something extra special?

And finding the goods to do it is super easy.

I found this set of pillowcases with the pattern already transferred on at my local craft store. The only supplies I needed to finish them up were embroidery floss, scissors, and a hoop.

Add some vintage trims from Nifty Thrifty Dry Goods and you have unique bed linens.

You can also find iron on transfers from Aunt Martha’s for more variety. I found tons of them at my craft store and there are plenty of places on line that sell them.

I also ran into Fairway Needlecraft Company at Winter CHA. They had a wonderful selection of vintage patterns. The owner told me that some of their patterns are based on their own vintage patterns. Because they have been in business so long they can go back into their own catalog and reprint patterns from WAAAY back.

The nice thing about projects like this is that they are portable and they make nice gifts. With all of the weddings coming up this summer and fall I need to get started on some more!

I love embroidered pillow cases! My grandma makes them for family members when they get married, and mine are almost too pretty to use.

I notice you said ALMOST too pretty. I hope you use them at least once in a while.
I embroidered a set of pillowcases for my parents several years ago but I don’t think they’ve ever been used. My mom says they are too pretty.
It makes me kind of sad. I didn’t put all that work into them so they’d sit in a closet. Ya know?

They were made to be used, so I definitely do! I’ve never been one to keep something in a drawer just because it’s pretty–kind of defeats the point of making beautiful, useful things. 🙂

Exactly! I’m going to quote you to my mother. LOL! 🙂

I love these! I want some! It has been a long time since I have embroidered, but I think I still remember!

      Hi Katherine,

      It’s like riding a bicycle. 🙂
And just in case you need some “remembering” there are lots of sites on the web with tutorials. Probably videos on YouTube as well.
