Recipes: Low Fat Apple Crisp

It’s just about that time of year.

Apples, apples, apples. I LOVE APPLES!

And I love Apple Crisp too. This is a low fat recipe I’ve worked out that still tastes great. Enjoy!

Apple Crisp

Smart Balance Cooking Spray

3/4 cups flour

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 cup water

2 cups sliced apples

1/2 cup Smart Balance (I think you could cut this back to 1/3 cup if you wanted)

1 cup brown sugar

Put apples in baking dish that has been sprayed lightly with cooking spray. Sprinkle with cinnamon and pour water over top.  Work flour, Smart Balance and brown sugar together and sprinkle over apples.

TIPS: For added fiber leave the peel on the apples and sprinkle the crisp with wheat germ before baking. To add more protien add a handful of pecan halves or walnuts. Chop the nuts if you don’t want them larger.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-40 minutes.

Of course the best way to serve this dessert is warm with ice cream. Reduced fat ice cream. I’m fond of Bryers Vanilla Bean with a warm apple dessert. What about you?
