How to Make Faux Sugared Fruit

December 18, 2009

foam fruit, mod podge, diamond dust

This looks SPECTACULAR for a Victorian Christmas, Easter or whatever.  I’ve sold a bit of this in my etsy store and now I’m going to give you my secret. It’ll still be in the store if you aren’t up to making it yourself so don’t fret.

It’s super easy to make.
Supplies:

Mod Podge
Diamond Dust
Foam Fruit (the more real it looks the better)
Foam brush
Clothes Pins

The first thing to do is to set up a length of string or twine for a small “clothesline”.  It has to be able to hold some weight.

Foam fruit, mod podge

Brush the fruit with Mod Podge and sprinkle the diamond dust on. Hang on the “clothes line” and let dry over night.

sugared pansies
I even did the same thing on the Pansies.  They look amazing!
The only caution with this craft is that Diamond Dust is made from ground glass.  I’ve never CUT myself with it but I have POKED myself and while it’s not fun it wasn’t terrible.  Also, because it is ground glass don’t leave anything covered in Diamond Dust where children or animals can get it.

Looks so beautiful. Shame you can’t eat it.

      Natasha,
Yeah, I don’t imagine it would taste good at all. 🙂
