Kids Craft: Turkey Treat Holder

November 11, 2009

I went surfing the web one day several weeks ago looking for a few Thanksgiving craft ideas for kids.  I teach a KIDS ONLY craft class on Wednesday afternoons.  I was really disappointed that there weren’t many crafts for Thanksgiving.  Seems like most crafters go from Halloween straight into Christmas…JUST like in Retail! So I set about to make something of my own.  I had spotted a cute little Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer treat holder on a page somewhere and decided to create a turkey out of it for Thanksgiving.  It was so easy and the kids had a great time with it.

All you need are:

  • A small clay pot
  • Tacky Glue
  • Foam sheets in various colors
  • 5mm wiggle eyes
  • TurkeyTreatHolder PDF Pattern

Print out the PDF pattern from the link above.

Just trace the pattern pieces onto the foam sheets, cut out and glue to the pot as shown.

The kids had a great time and the glue dries clear (my pictures were taken when it was still wet).

Foam sheets cut with safety scissors so this is a good craft for all ages.  If you have small children you may want to hold on to the wiggle eyes until it’s time to glue them on! 🙂  The feet plug up the hole in the bottom nicely so you could put loose, wrapped candy etc inside or put it in a small bag and then inside the turkey.  Wouldn’t this MAKE the kids’ table at Thanksgiving this year?  You can have them made ahead of time for table decorations or have someone lead the kids’ in making the craft to keep them occupied until the big feast!
