Upcycled Bowling Ball

April 5, 2010

What do you do with a few bowlings ball from the thrift store?  If you are me you give it some crafty love and see what you can make of them.

First sand with a bit of sand paper and then spray with Bright Silver spray paint.  It will take a few coats.

And then hit it with a few splats of bronze and even black spray paint.  Turn the cans upside down when you spray and you’ll get splatters of all sizes.

Finally, a coat (or three) of triple thick glaze.

While I was going for a vintage mercury glass look what I ended up with was a polished stone.  I LOVE it!  My  “stone” bowling balls are named Herbert, Julia and Stacie. How do I know?  That’s the name that was engraved into the balls when I found them. By the way, I used them to decorate a wedding and they were GREAT!! And now they are by my front door step. 🙂

Mine are by the front door now. I’d love to put them by the lightpost at the end of my drive but I know that the neighborhood kids would have them and be “bowling” all over town. “Dang Kids! Stay off my Lawn!” 🙂

I’ve been waiting to see pictures of this project! So cool! My chrome spray paint won’t stay on the self for long now.
