2 Keepsake Box Gifts to Make – 1 for Christmas and 1 for Every Day

2 Keepsake Box Gifts to Make

So I was thinking… I’ll wait here while you duck for cover… what if, when I make my Winter/Christmas crafts… what if I make a SECOND craft at the same time that I can hold on to until AFTER Christmas?

Hmmmm

What if?

So I found the two wooden boxes you see above and started thinking that it was a great container for coasters, keys, jewelry etc.

I thought that if I put the snowflake box out during the winter I could put the off white one out the rest of the year. Or give one away… NAH! 🙂

I ALWAYS remove the hardware and sand wooden projects. Trust me, it’s worth the extra effort.

So I worked on both boxes at the same time but I’ll give you directions for the snowflake first and then the white one.

Paint the box and the 25mm wooden beads with Folk Art in Light Blue.

To make it easier to paint the wooden beads I jammed them down on a wooden skewer (jamming them on makes a snug fit so they won’t roll around while you are painting) and then stuck the blunt end of the skewer into a piece of foam while the beads dried.

Paint the snowflakes Warm White.

And then paint the edges in Light Blue with a semi dry brush.

Dry brush the corners, edges and some areas of the flat surfaces with Skyline paint.

And then go over all of the pieces with Extreme Glitter in Hologram. (For a review of FolkArt Extreme Glitter Paint please see this CraftTestDummies blog post)

Assemble as shown in the above photos of the finished project using your favorite glue. Reattach the hardware.

Now for the white box. I call it the white box even though it’s not really WHITE. But you get the idea.

I used wooden knobs like this for the feet.

I painted the box with Warm White (the same paint used on the snowflakes) and then dry brushed over all the pieces, including the decorative wood piece that I attached to the top, with Raw Sienna and Burnt Umber.

Glue on the feet and decorative wood piecs, attach the hardware and you are good to go.

I love both boxes! I love that the snowflake box is good for the whole winter and not just one holiday. And I love the vintage look of the white one.

So are you making any holiday crafts that you can make two (or more) of so that you can gift one or save one for after the holidays?

No, I didn’t line them or paint them. I left them natural. Just in case I wanted to store wrapped candies or something inside.

Those are the cutest boxes! Great idea. Did you line them with anything? or paint the inside? I just love seeing all the creativity people have within themselves.
