Now that I’ve confessed my relapse I may as well go on and have some fun, right?
I originally came up with this project idea for a recent episode of Scrapbook Soup (Not yet aired.) and I shared two different looks for this project.
For the show, I had this made to a certain point but, for me, I wasn’t finished with it yet. (You know I like MORE with my MORE!)
So I brought it home waiting for the inspiration to finish it.
As soon as I stamped the gypsy woman onto the muslin and I saw how nicely the image came out I knew I had the finishing touch for my “Gypsy Picnic”.
See what I’m talking about in this blog post: Toolbox Tuesday – Art Stamps from 100 Proof Press.
Here is how you can make one for yourself!
Gypsy Picnic – Mixed Media Embroidery Hoop Art
Supplies:
- 8 inch embroidery hoop
- Printable Belgian Linen from Jacquard
- InkJet Printer
- Fabric for background
- Low-High temp hot glue gun & glue sticks
- Scissors
- Off white small doily
- Yellow & White Buttons
- Crochet Flower
- Lace Trim
- Stick Pins
- Embossing Label Maker
- Tulle and complimentary fabric torn into thin strips
- Embroidery Floss
- Stamped image on muslin
Directions:
- Print an image and any wording onto the printable linen and set aside to dry.
- Place the background into the embroidery hoop and pull taught. Screw the hoop screw and and tighten in place.
- Lay out the image and other embellishments in a pleasing manner.
- Adhere the embellishments with a low temp glue or embroidery stitches.
- Place the doilies so that they break the edge of the frame and glue in place.
- Add the flower embellishment and buttons with glue cutting the shank off the buttons if needed.
- Emboss a label and adhere.
- Pull the fabric taught again and tighten down the screw if the fabric has come loose while working.
- Cut the excess fabric away from the back of the embroidery hoop with sharp scissors.
- Run a bead of low temp glue around the back of the embroidery hoop to secure the fabric in place and keep from fraying.
- Glue the strips of fabric, tulle and embroidery floss to the bottom back of the embroidery hoop.
I love this idea. I have hoops and lots of scraps to start with. I just have to figure out the printing part. I am at mid-life too and glad I found your blog…..
Hello, Margaret! I’m so happy you are here. I used printable linen from Jacquard but you can also use freezer paper. I’ll have to see if I can get a tutorial for that up soon.
Beautiful piece, just had to pin this to one of my boards.
Thank you Mary. I’m glad you like it. ♥
Vicki, I thought I recognized that gypsy girl from yesterday! Love your project! Great for a teen’s room!
Hugs,
