This is a project I took to CHA in Chicago last summer and again to CHA in LA this winter. It was supposed to be published but that plan kind of fell through (it happens) so I decided to share it with my blog family. I hope you like it!
Supplies:
Terra Cotta Flower Pots
Folk Art Paint in Violet Pansy
Kraft Paper or paper bag approximately 12 x 12 inches
Foam Brush
Pallette or paper plate
BLOOM vinyl letters from Vinyl Words
Buttons in coordinating colors from Buttons Galore and More
Green chenille stems (Pipe Cleaners)
Shredded paper from a party supply store
Styrofoam balls – Styrofoam Brand 3 inch 6 pack. You’ll need 5
Wooden Plant Stakes – Panacea
Cuttlebug from ProvoCraft
Nestabilities dies
Hot glue gun
Glue sticks
Crop-a-dile Big Bite or Metal awl
K & Company Designer Paper – Que Sera Sera or papers of your choice
K & Company Specialty Paper – Citronella or papers of your choice
Paint the flower pots with Violet Pansy. Don’t forget to paint down inside the pots at least half way down. Let dry.
Paint the Kraft Paper or paper bag with Violet Pansy. You may want to add other shades of purple paints too to give the paper some color variations. Let dry.
Cut paper to cover the pots. Using a strong double sided adhesive to adhere paper to outside of pot.
Cut approximately one third of the styro ball off.
Push styro balls down into flower pots. You may glue them in place if you wish with hot glue.
Using the Cuttlebug and Netabilities dies cut several layers from the different papers and different sizes. Don’t worry about having some left over. They are easily used up in another project.
Layer several papers in different sizes to form the flower. Put a hole in the center with a crop-a-dile big bite or metal awl.
Push a chenille stem up through the button and back down again.
And then push the stem with button on top of the flowers down into the layers of paper.
Like so.
I made leaves by bending and shaping chenille stems.
I wrapped a green floral stick with a chenille stem and twisted the leaves on.
Use the end of a paint brush to roll the edges of some of the petals up… and roll some down.
Cool!
Put BLOOM onto the front of the pots according to package directions.
I added some shredded yellow paper from the party aisle to cover the foam in the pots. THEN I decided that I didn’t like the leaves with just the wire so I cut a couple layers of paper and glued that to the chenille stem leaves and I liked that much better!
