A clay pot that is “Cute” and a clay pot that is “Classy”. I’ve got everyone covered this week! 🙂
Supplies:
- Liquitex Modeling Paste
- Clay Pot
- Folk Art Acrylics in Country Twill and Metallic Antique Gold
- Foam Brush
- 2″ Paint Brush
- Palette Knive
- Stencil
- Stencil Adhesive (optional)
Just like the Geranium Painted Pot you may want to seal the pots or use them as a “decoration” only pot with the plant inside another smaller pot. It’s up to you.
Cut away portion of stencil that you want to use. If you are using a stencil adhesive apply it to the back of the stencil and apply it to the clay pot. If you aren’t using an adhesive just hold the stencil in place with one hand. Fill the stencil area with a coat of Modeling Paste using the Palette Knive.
Carefully remove the stencil and leave the modeling paste untouched until set. You can use a heat gun to speed the process but it really doesn’t take long.
After the modeling paste is set you can lightly sand any areas that are sticking out too far.
Paint the pot all over with Country Twill paint. Paint down into the pot an inch or two if you like.
For the final step, dip a 2″ paint brush into the Metallic Antique Gold and brush off most of the paint onto a paper towel. Brush remaining paint onto the pot. You will see the Country Twill color underneath the brush marks of the Metallic Antique Gold.
The flash makes this picture a little “hot” but I wanted you to see a bit of the Metallic Antique Gold. This is a very pretty pot and you can use lots of different stencils. A row of these in a kitchen window planted with herbs would look DELIGHTFUL. 🙂
I am inspired. Thank you for sharing!
You bet, Susan! I’m glad you are inspired. 🙂
That is officially one of the BEST comments I’ve ever received on this blog! If can do something that inspires someone else to get crafty and make beautiful things then I am a HAPPY WOMAN!! Thank you so much for that comment Barb. 🙂
I have this large jar of modeling paste sitting on my paint table and I’ve never even opened it. OMG, you’ve given me incentive to crack that baby open and to get busy using it. This is gorgeous!
Peace & Love,
~Barb~
