I think of that Rockwell song from the ’80’s… “I Always Feel Like Somebody’s Watching Me” when I look at these mummies I created from cylinder vases.
Put a candle inside and they make a great Halloween decoration anywhere in the house or for a party.
Just remember to never leave a burning candle unattended OR use these great battery operated tea lights for extra security.
Supplies:
- Mod Podge
- Cylinder Vases
- Google Eyes – mine are glow in the dark
- Cheese Cloth
- Foam Brush
- Ink Pads in shades of brown
- Stiff paint brush
- Scissors
Cut the cheese cloth into 1 – 1 1/2 inch strips.
Slather some Mod Podge on part of the vase with the foam brush.
And begin wrapping the cheese cloth around the vase. Repeat in sections until the vase is covered.
Coat the cheese cloth in more Mod Podge.
Let dry thoroughly. It’ll probably take at lease a couple of hours.
Using a rather stiff paint brush give your little mummies a touch of color.
I used Distress Inks from Tim Holtz in Tea Dye and Brushed Corduroy. Just get a little of the ink on the brush and then randomly brush it over the dried Mod Podge and cheese cloth.
For the finishing touch glue Google Eyes onto the vases with your favorite glue.
Another option is to wrap the cheese cloth so there are openings where you can see the glass cylinder and place the eyes in the openings.
You could also omit the eyes for a less juvenile look if you wanted.
Thanks everyone for the great comments. Teresa, if you make them be sure to send a photo. I’d love to see them!!
