How to Make Hanging Tealight Lanterns
Here are the hanging tea lights that I mentioned in Sunday’s post. They are super duper easy and look amazing hanging in my old apple tree. Day or night.
I purchased 7 small flower vases. These have a small domed grid that makes flower arranging easier. The grid also keeps leaves and whatnot from falling into your lights.
I used an 12 gauge aluminum wire. It’s very soft and pliable, which means that it’s EASY to work with.
Make a hook in one end of the wire as shown in the photo above.
Hold the hook, with the open end away from the vase, at the neck of the vase just below where the aluminum gridded lid ends. Bring the wire around the neck to the hook. Don’t shape the wire too tightly.
Make a right angle with the wire and pass it up through the hook you made.
Bring the wire up over the vase, and bend into an upside down U shape, forming the handle. You can make this part as long or short as you desire.
Pass the handle portion of the wire under the wire that is going around the neck of the vase. Snip it off leaving a 1 inch tail. Bend the tail back up and form another hook like in the photo above.
I love the way the colors look in the sunshine!
Hammock, roses, shade and sparkle. What more could I ask for?
Oh yeah, MAGIC. 🙂
It’s easy to make hanging lanterns or lights from lots of different glass containers. Mason jars, jelly or jam jars, or different vases as long as there is a neck that will hold the wire in place.
Ha! Just make the handles long enough and keep the wicks cut and I doubt you’ll have any trouble at all. If you make them, take a picture and I’ll post it!
These are so cool and look so fabulous in your tree, sparkling at night. I may have to try this…knowing my luck, I’ll burn down our tree, though. LOL
Peace & Love,
