I’ve always been a “more is more” kind of gal. If one Jack-o-Lantern is good then a stack of four are even better!
Here is a jack-o-lantern totem pole that I made last year (before I blogged much). I used a pine plaque as the base with a dowel rod glued into a hole I drilled most of the way, but not all of the way, through. I painted the base green and carved a hole in the top and bottom of the pumpkin after carving the face. I also carved a hole in the back to accept a couple of strands of lights. Slide the pumpkin down over the dowel to the bottom. You may use a little glue around the base of the bottom pumpkin just to keep things from moving around.
The second pumpkin up was carved and holes carved in top and bottom like with the first. The holes are a little larger so the lights can go up through. Slide the second pumpkin down onto the first. Repeat with the third pumpkin.
The final pumpkin only has the hole carved in the bottom. You may have to do some “fitting” to make it look right. Either carving bigger holes in the bottoms or slicing off a bit of the stem. You may also have to trim the dowel rod if it is too tall. The final step was to poke the wires of a Faux Crow into the top pumpkin. I put a touch of E6000 at the base of the feet to keep him from falling out.
Be sure to plug your strands of lights in before threading through all of the pumpkins. You don’t want to go to all of that trouble only to find that the lights don’t work.
