I got a chance to spend a few minutes with Katie Hacker when I was at CHA this past July and she sent me home with her newest book and a few of her wonderful Katiedids elements all tucked away in a nice little Beadalon tote.
Which slipped nicely into another tote from CHA.
And was recently un-tucked. *sigh*
Jewelry Making Book Review: Live Wire Jewelry by Katie Hacker
Live Wire Jewelry by Katie Hacker has 30 colorful jewelry designs featuring all kinds of wire.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of experience with wire, or jewelry making for that matter, since the first 13 pages cover all sorts of materials, tools and findings.
Each project has a large photograph that allows you to see details.
I decided to make the Gumball Earrings from page 17. I think my Bundled Wire Beads need a little work but the directions were easy to follow and had plenty of photos for reference. The directions called for 24 gauge wire and I only had 26 gauge on hand but I think that my gumball earrings turned out pretty good.
I like the disarray of balled wired next to the smooth polished Swarovski crystals. But I like contrasting elements like that.
I think this is a great book to have on hand whether you are a new jewelry maker or more experienced. There is lots of inspiration to be had here kids. Not just for jewelry design either. Katie has a knack for color combinations that are an inspiration all on their own.
