Sizzix Triple Play Blog Hop- Iris Paper Folding – Pop Up Gift Card Holder

December 2, 2010

iris paper folding, christmas tree

We all know how I LOVE Iris Paper Folding.

And I SUPER LOVE the Sizzix Pop-up Gift Card Holder Die (#656740) by Karen Burniston! Why? Because it makes me look really good. It is a very easy pop-up to put together but the finished card looks complicated.

My card looks like I spent AGES engineering a paper masterpiece when all I did was put the die together.

Karen has a video tutorial showing how to put the pop-up together on her blog I Am Not Left Handed (I’ll have to ask her sometime why she called it that…aren’t you curious too?). You can see how easy it is to put together. There are a lot of steps to it but it’s not difficult.

My Iris folded tree pattern is from the book “Iris Folding Compendium” by Maruscha Gaasenbeek. There are also several sites online that offer patterns.

As always please use the graphic to the right to navigate through the hop and visit the other designers’ blogs to see what they made with the same die. It’s always interesting to see how different the same die can look.

      Hi Margaret,
The books I used were “Iris Folding Compendium” and “460 Iris Folded Cards to Make : The Complete Iris Folding Compendium” both of them by Maruscha Gaasenbeek.
      I hope that helps!

Nice card! I started to try iris folding when my mom went to an origami convention and brought back a Dutch iris folding book with great ideas for cards! I like trees and birds because the paper really makes the objects look like feathers or branches. If anyone has time, check out some artwork I did using iris folding. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

I need that card – and I need the Panera bread card too! 😀 Love it!

Your card is beautiful. The iris folding on the front really makes you look good too 🙂

The folded paper tree is really cool. I had to look closely because I first thought it was printed paper and not actual folded paper. Very clever!

    Love the card and tree!

WOW! That tree is to die for! What a beautiful card! I’m honored that you put the GCH inside. Oh, and my blog name is a quote from my favorite movie of all time: The Princess Bride. When Inigo Montoya is fighting the Man in Black on top of the Cliffs of Insanity he says “I am not left-handed!” rather triumphantly and swaps his sword to his right hand. Since I am not left-handed, it’s also an accurate statement! Thanks for asking and thanks a million for showing off my die!

That is one awesome technique! I have to try that.

What a cool way to do the tree!
