Today’s Project: Ripping the Brides’ Head Off

June 18, 2009

Ok, it's not as bad as it sounds.  Before the yummy window that I recently did I had done one promoting our bridal show. I thought I posted pictures of that window but apparently I didn't, so I will now.

I made the bride out of a wicker dress form and about 28 yards of tulle all draped and pinned in order to make a "wedding dress".  I had one customer who makes wedding gowns come in and complain that brides were going to want to order that dress and she wanted to know how to make it.  I was flattered and amused all at the same time!

I turned cube vases upside down and built composite flowers on top (really on the bottom) and put lights inside them and all under the wedding dress.

The bride doesn't have a real head.  Just a super large bouquet of flowers.  Medusa style.

So that window stayed up for a couple of months and then the bride got moved back to the wedding department.  This week they have been re-doing the wedding department and suddenly I had a homeless bride on my hands.

Not knowing where else to park her I decided to dismantle her, and instead of throwing all the parts away I tore her head off and used all of the flowers in a new arrangement.

The tulle is all wrapped up in a bag waiting another use and the dress form will be transformed into "someone" else I'm sure.  Talk about zero waste.
