Wrapping Wire with Floral Tape

November 18, 2009

Here is a quick How-To for wrapping floral wire with floral tape.  Floral wire comes in packs that is already cut into 18” lengths or on a paddle where you unroll it and then cut it off.  I prefer the wire that is already cut for me, mostly because it is nice and smooth and easy to work with.

Start at the top of the wire pinching the beginning of the tape between your thumb and middle finger.  Roll the tape onto the wire and continue rolling between your fingers and thumb.  Gently stretch the tape and over lap it onto itself.  Floral tape is a little like electrical tape in that it sticks best to itself.  As the tape warms up in your hands it gets sticker and will stick to itself easier.

All the way down to the end of the wire.  Tear the tape off from the roll.  Tada!

Why did I post this?  Well, for one thing there are lots of things you can use taped floral wire for, especially around the holidays.  It's a great way to tie things together without them being seen (like with chenille stems and zip ties) in displays, wreaths and garlands…speaking of GARLAND.  You'll need this information for TOMORROW'S post.  🙂
