Mother’s Day Wish List

April 15, 2016

Get to know your mother.

Mother’s Day Wish List

How well do you know your mom? I mean really know her. Do you know what her hopes and dreams are? Do you know how she takes her tea or what she would do on a Sunday morning at home alone? Where would she travel if money wasn’t an issue?

Do you know what she wanted to be when she grew up or what her greatest fear is? What was the worst thing she did as a teenager? Who was her first love or first kiss?

If you are younger she may not be ready to answer some of these questions but if you are a little older she might tell you.

The thing is, we often forget that our Mother’s are real people. They have hopes and dreams. They’ve had their heart broken and they have broken hearts too. For the most part, moms just do the mom thing, putting the needs of the family as a whole above anything they want or need. They tend to forget themselves that they are an independent human being. And they rarely ask for what they need or want.

I would like to challenge you to get to know your mom a bit for Mother’s Day. Look at the home she lives in, what colors and textures does she decorate with? What books does she read? What are her hobbies?

Ask her a few questions – basic or deep – your choice. Who is she, this woman who kept or keeps your family going? What makes her tick?

Don’t just buy a potted plant for Mother’s Day and call it a job well done. Dig a little. And try to buy something that is meaningful to her.
