I’ve written about my mother in law before on my old blog. She’s got Alzheimer’s and is in hospice. We’ve been cleaning out her house for more than two years now. Just a little at a time.
The end of June my husband and I traveled to New Jersey where we will have her funeral and she will be buried to make arrangements. It’s tough. I haven’t known her all that long since W and I have only been married 11 years and she lived so far away but she was always good to me and to our kids. And that means a lot to me.
I decided I needed to make a Mixed Media piece with some of her memorabilia.
I’m calling this “Saying Goodbye”.
Several of the items were “thrifted” from her house when we were cleaning it up.
The tassel and fabric are new and the buttons are from Buttons Galore and More. I did a lot of remembering while I was putting this together, and yes, a little crying too. It’s hard to say goodbye.
I think that it is very touching to create an heirloom as a way to honor a loved one. This is very beautiful and classy. I am so glad that I came to your spot to read this post. Perhaps I will go home and be inspired to create an heirloom to commemorate a very special Ancestor.
What a cherished piece and touching story! Thank you for sharing Vicki!
What a nice way to pay tribute to someone special. It’s beautiful.

This is beautiful….what an incredible visual memory.
Love the colors and the memorabilia adds great dimension!
So pretty! You should submit this to Somerset Memories!
