I found this recipe for Apple Cider Caramels on Pinterest and I may not have given the recipe a second thought except that the photo made them look SO DARN GOOD! (See the photo here.) I couldn’t resist!
Not only did I make the super yummy confections but I thought they would be PERFECT as a favor for Thanksgiving. Something for my guests to take home along with some leftovers. 🙂
And here is how…
I put four caramels into a Wilton treat bag and I cut a piece of scrapbook paper just a bit wider than the treat bag. I decided how tall I wanted the header to be and then cut it and folded it in half, rounded the corners with a paper punch and stapled the header onto the top of the bag. (I rolled the bag down a couple of times before adding the header)
To make the button embellished paper flowers I used several layers of Darice Paper Petals, embroidery floss and buttons from the Flirtation Button Jar from Buttons Galore and More.
Sew the button on using a very sharp needle.
I used all 6 strands and went down through the front leaving a 1 1/2 – 2 inch tail of thread. Come back up from the back to the front and leave a 1 1/2-2 inch tail again. Cut the thread, tie the ends together in a double knot, and that’s it.
I used the EKSuccess punch “For Sale Sign” to punch out shapes with dark brown cardstock and wrote “Happy Thanksgiving” with a gold metallic, fine tip paint pen from Elmer’s and then attached both the embellished flower and the punched cardstock sentiment with large glue dots.
That’s all there is too it.
You can make the caramels a week or two before Thanksgiving but you might find it VERY difficult to stay away from them long enough to make the favors for your guests.
Thank you for the lovely words and your treat bags are adorable! I’m sure your guests will love these 😀
Thanks for stopping by to comment Anna. I have to say that the caramels are pretty amazing too! Well worth the time! 🙂
