Altered Dominoes: Turning Them Into Jewelry

September 20, 2011

Ok, here we are. It’s Friday and we’re going to finish off the dominoes.

The first three are super easy.

Altered Dominoes: Turning Them Into Jewelry

1) Glue a bail to the back

2) Glue a pin back to the back

3) Glue a super strong magnet to the back.

ORRRRR get really crazy and start drilling holes.

I even tried a few ways of drilling the holes… you know, just to see which way was best.

I used a coffee filter and wrapped it around the domino to prevent the clamp from scratching the surface and then secured it to the counter with a clamp.  I drilled a hole in the top with a hand crank type drill.

Believe it or not the dominoes are pretty easy to drill. I drilled right through one!

You can also use a power drill.

Or you can get REALLY crazy and use a drill press.  Not everyone has one, I know, but if you are going to drill a hole in lots of dominoes then this is the way to go.

Mr. Brown says don’t forget your eye protection!

Use a jig to help hold the domino.

And a clamp.

And then put a little jewelry glue on the eye hook and screw it in.

Thanks Kim! Dominoes aren’t all that expensive. And they go a long way, as you can see! 🙂 Email a photo or two of your finished dominoes and I’ll add them to my blog!

Thanks so much for sticking with the process and figuring out how to subscribe and comment. I know I’ve had trouble with other blog formats too and you have to be a little stubborn to wade through all of the garbage to finally be able to leave your comment. And what a comment! I LOVE IT!
I loved the spider domino too. It’ll be great for Halloween. I almost bought another tin of the dang dominoes today. Somebody STOP ME! 🙂

Beautiful work! I looove the bird domino. I have a bunch of alcohol inks upstairs in my craft room, guess I need to invest in some dominoes now!

I’m officially addicted to your blog hehe. It took me awhile to figure out how to subscribe and leave a comment, not used to Typepad after using blogger for so long. Anyway…it’s a very hard choice, but I LOVE the latest spider web domino. The orange leaf is a close second 🙂
