I wrote a whole bunch of posts last fall in which I took craft products that have been around for a while and made something a little more “updated” with them. Such as this Plastic Canvas Wall Art, Paper Twist Wreath, or this crazy Sinamay Harvest Angel … Hey, a Creative Goddess has to amuse herself some how! 🙂
Anyway, I recently stumbled upon a whole BUNCH of Aunt Martha’s Iron On Transfers. You know, the ones with the cute kittens that have the days of the week to embroider on towels – or the sweet roses to embroider on pillowcases? (I actually made a set of pillowcases for my parents about 10 years ago) Yeah, those. They’ve been around for a long, long time and there are more designs and styles than I ever imagined!
Oh, the possibilities!
So here is what I came up with. I cut some ArtEmboss metal from Amaco and laid it on a thick foam sheet.
Then I cut out the portion of the iron on that I wanted to emboss on the metal and taped it to the Art Emboss Metal and the foam as shown with blue painters tape.
And then used a wooden stylus to trace the pattern onto the metal. I think a ball point pen would work too if you didn’t push too hard. Say, in red, and that way you would know where you had already traced.
Once I had it all traced I flipped it over and used a larger blending stump from the art department to embossed the recessed areas so that the line would stand out even more.
Then I colored in the metal with my Bic Mark It Markers (Review of Bic Mark Its on the Craft Test Dummies Blog)
And yes, I know that the photo above is a bird… bit of a continuity problem, but I actually tried this several times with different patterns. Quality control you know. 🙂
I don’t know what it is about embossing metal but I find it very relaxing.
Are you full of ideas now? What other things could you use Aunt Martha’s Iron On Transfers for? Leave your thoughts in the comments section. I’d love to hear what you’ve come up with!
Very clever! I’m going to post this on our Facebook page.
Thanks Becky!! I’ll look for it! 🙂
I reposted your post on my fb wall too! 🙂
