I couldn’t resist. I walked past this plain brown paper mache paint bucket looking thing at the craft store and I had to have it. Lucky for me it only cost $1.00!! Yup, one American dollar.
I know what you are thinking. I can hear you all the way over here…
You are thinking that I must be a special kind of crazy to want to PAY for something like this but I’m telling you… I had a VISION. A vision of Frankenstein and Halloween Crafts!
Just wait until you see the SUPREME CUTENESS I got from this $1 piece of paper, plastic and aluminum. You’ll want to be just as crazy as I am in a minute! 🙂
First off I’ll share one of my Creative Goddess type tips with you. To remove a sticker from something like this just hit it a couple of minutes with a heat gun. The heat softens the adhesive and you should be able to pull the sticker off with very little trouble. See there… A craft AND a tip. I’m so good to you. 😉
The next thing I did was paint the all of the paper mache parts with Folk Art Paint in Apple Orchard except for the little knobs that stick out to hold the handle. Oh, yeah and I didn’t paint the inside either. Crazy AND lazy! 🙂
After the Apple Orchard paint died I used Folk Art Metallic Silver Sterling for the knobs. To make them look like bolts.
THEN I added a pair of 28mm wiggle (or google) eyes and a nose from a package of felt buttons from Favorite Findings which is from Blumenthal Lansing.
I used Aleene’s Tacky Glue to glue them on because I was afraid hot glue or a strong chemical glue would damage the lightweight plastic insert. Don’t use too much and you may want to use painters tape to hold the items in place until the glue dries. Otherwise you’ll have eyeballs slipping all over poor Franks’ face. (Don’t ask me how I know this.)
Then I cut a strip of black cardstock to fit between the “bolts” and 1 1/4 inches wide. I then cut notches out of it for his hair and taped it on with my handy dandy Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro.
Finally I drew on a crooked smile and some stitches with a black Sharpie Paint Pen.
And Frank is ready for a night out on the town…
Crazy Cute or what? 🙂
You could easily adapt this idea to use with one of those lightweight plastic paint cans, an oatmeal box or a real paint can.
Where o where did you purchase this?
Hi Wendy,
I’m sorry to report that THAT exact product is no longer available from the supplier I used. You could also use the clear acrylic “paint cans” that are often embellished with paper and other scrapbooking supplies. I found two sizes here: http://www.consumercrafts.com/store/browse/catalog/scrapbooking-and-paper-organization
I hope that helps. 🙂
