The end of this week found Warren and I in the Poconos in Eastern Pennsylvania. We traveled out to the house to take care of some family business and to check on our property there.
Next week the cabin and “the country barn” as the family calls it will be torn down.
Warren found this sled in the country barn. Heavy snows caused the roof to collapse so it was a real trick to get in and get it out. He knew that his father had made the sled but on the back he found this stenciled on “Yukon Express Patent Number 21358”.
2/13/1958 is Warren’s birthday. He realized that his father had either made the sled for him when he was born or for his first Christmas. He remembers photos of himself and his sister in the sled and has a photo of his daughter in it too. Needless to say, he was really happy that he was able to salvage it before it was lost forever.
Do you ever wonder about the handmade items that you make and who will treasure them when you are gone?
