How to Make a Felt "Kite Tail" Garland for Spring Decorating

I hate to admit it but my mantle has been BARE since I took down the Christmas decorations.

VERY unlike me.

What is also VERY unlike me is that I have had various arrangements of the same items decorating the mantle for probably a year and a half now. I’ve not acquired or made anything new.

Is it possible that I’ve been kidnapped and didn’t know?

I decided that I wanted to create a mantle with lots of bright color for SPRING. Keeping our current budget in mind I knew I wanted to use supplies I already had on hand.

Not much of a trial considering I have a small craft store in my house!

I’ve seen various garlands made with paper but I wanted something CRAZY VIBRANT so I went with felt.

I cut the corner off a piece of foam for the template and then cut out lots of small, felt triangles.

Once I had a big pile of triangles I took them to my sewing machine and stitched them all in a line.

One after another.

It looks to me like a long kite tail.

It makes me think of kite tails dancing on warm breezes.

It makes me all crazy, happy.

Hello, love this. I going to make one for my baby’s nursery. Just wondering as I’m new to sewing things and just wondering after sewing a triangle, do u just sew nothing for a tiny bit then add the next triangle? Sorry this probably sounds silly.

Yes, Natasha, you will sew for just a centimeter or two without any fabric under the presser foot.
      I hope that helps.
I’d love to see a photo of your finished project!
