Make a Grapevine Wreath Garden Chandelier Part 1

Isn’t this just so much fun!?!?!  I can’t wait to take this outside this summer, put tea lights in all the cups and have a little evening soiree. That would be magical!

I’ll tell you how I made it so you can make one too. Or more than one! It’s a project that takes some explaining so I’ll break it down into two posts. I’ll put Part 2 up on Wednesday.

First, lets make the candle holder portion of this garden chandelier.

I gathered up a whole slew of glass beads that I had gotten on clearance. All blues and greens some 18 gauge wire, wire cutters and a small wooden dowel.

Then I cut 18 gage wire to about 12-14 inches and strung beads on the wire randomly. Don’t think about it. Just fill a small bowl with tons of beads and string them on as you pick them up.  Watch TV while you do it if you want.

Leave the beginning of the wire (about 4 inches) bare. Holding the bare end start wrapping the beaded wire around the top of the votive cup or a small glass jar.  I left space between the beads in some places. This makes it easier to wrap the wire around the glass AND uses fewer beads… so you can make MORE pretty garden chandeliers!

Wrap the wire several times around the glass and then thread the wire through the beads and wrap a few times to anchor.

Wrap the other bare end through and around the strands of beaded wire a few times to anchor.

Form a handle with the two pieces of wire, twist together and then wrap the loose ends around a small wooden dowel to curl the ends.

You can also wrap the center of the handle around the small dowel as well just to add interest.

Now you can continue on and make a chandelier OR use this to hang from individual branches in a tree.

I think that individual light would be pretty but the chandelier is definately a WOW thing.

Cut a length of wire to 18 inches or so and wrap one end around a piece of the grapevine wreath. String more beads on the wire (4-6 inches) and anchor it again by wrapping around a piece of the grapevine wreath. Continue adding beads and wrap them around the wreath anchoring it every once in a while.

In order to hang the votive cups from the wreath I put the wreath on the top of a small trash can. The trash can stabilized the whole thing while I tied the votive cups on with ribbon. Or ou can use more wire to attach them if you want.

I used three lengths of ribbon, evenly spaced and brought together at the top to hang the whole piece.
