I think I’ve lost my mind here. But that shouldn’t surprise anyone at all. Right? I posted back in April about my continuing miniature obsession and the miniature backyard bungalow I was creating for miniatures.com and their 23rd Annual Creatin’ Contest. I had dry fit the pieces together and made sure I had everything I needed to put my miniature backyard bungalow together.
And then I sat it aside while I became completely obsessed with getting my garden and yard in shape.
I’ve been getting in so late from the yard and garden work that I only have the energy to watch one or two very short shows at night so we’ve started to binge watch lots of Tiny House shows on Netflix.
And that’s when it struck me.
I want to create this miniature backyard bungalow into a scale model of my dream tiny house studio and garden spot for the back yard.
I decided I wanted it to have an artsy vintage look so I gave it a brick floor that flows from the front porch right into the interior. Then I added a weathered white wall inside and weathered aqua looking wood on the outside.
The brick flooring and white washed interior are done with papers from miniatures.com and the exterior is a paper I found at a local shop. I love those tiny shingles also from miniatures.com. They are so realistic looking!
I painted the door frames and window frames that come with the miniature backyard bungalow with a coat of chalky finish paint from Plaid.
TIP: the “window glass” in these pieces slides out the top so you can paint and not get paint on the windows. Once the paint is dry the “window glass” simply slides right back in. Easy peasy!
I chopped 2.5 inches off the back of the structure and 2 inches off the porch so that it comes closer to being a tiny house.
I’m working on carefully cutting down the porch frame and railing now so that it will fit back onto the front of the house.
Because in my head it will sit right between the apple and pear tree just outside my garden.
Oh, man! I can’t wait to get farther on this. I mean, if people can cut out and paste photos of their dreams on a piece of poster board and they come true what can happen if you build a full on scale model!?!?
Now that the basic shape is solid and the floors, interior and exterior walls are good I’m ready to working on the trim pieces. And then the decorating.

What fun – looking forward to the finished tiny bungalow!
I can’t wait to see the finished product. So glad you’ve never stopped dreaming… me either. Dreams are what keeps my life fulfilled.
