I don’t know about you but lately I have spent many days indoors, drinking coffee, catching up on business and doing laundry. At one point I thought about going out but it was just too darn cold. I don’t know about you but I’m beginning to NEED some spring in my world. We are getting closer but it’s not here yet. At least not in NE Ohio.
While you are waiting for SPRING to poke her head out you can create these little mixed media eggs for a sweet vignette. Just remember not to look out the window and you can pretend spring is on it’s way.
Even though I tend to prefer bold colors there is something about Spring that makes it OK for me to decorate with some pastels. Only for me it has to have a vintage look to work. So here is a perfect vintage inspired project for sprucing up your mantle or a shelf for Spring.
You’ll Need:
- Mod Podge – Matte
- Wood Eggs
- Country Candle Lamp
- Hydrangea Picks
- Sage Tulle Netting
- Paint – your choice
- Foam Brush
- Scissors
- Vintage (Or not so vintage) Sewing Pattern
- Wire Cutters
There are lots of ways you can embellish these two items for Spring.
I cut a vintage pattern into small pieces about 2 inches square (no need to precise here) and adhered them to the wooden eggs with Mod Podge.
Let dry.
Once the paper was dry I went back through the pattern and cut out the large letters that let you know which pattern piece you are using. I got lucky and all of the letters I needed for SPRING were there except the I. For that one, I cut the H apart.
While the Mod Podge is drying on the eggs you can paint the candle lamp turnings with acrylic paint.
Once the paint was dry I sanded some of it off again along the raised edges.
Cut a length of tulle to create a bow and then insert a small portion of the hydrangea pick to finish it off.
I didn’t glue the eggs onto the candle lamp portion so that I can turn the eggs around to the more plain side if I want to keep them out after Spring is over.
This looks like a good project to keep cabin fever at bay. Spring is 23 days away, and I can delude myself that it is spring now for at least that long.
I’m keeping my nose buried in seed catalogs Gail. It’s always spring/summer in there! 🙂
Definitely a breath of spring, Vicki! I love the vintage look of the eggs and being able to turn them around for any season display. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thank YOU, Kris. ♥
