Mod Podge on a Wax Tea Light Holder

Mod Podge on a Wax Tea Light Holder

Have you seen these? They look like regular pillar candles except that there is no wick inside. There is a small depression down inside to put in a battery operated tea light. No flame and no melted candle wax on the furniture or rug. If you leave the room you don’t have to worry about the house burning down. Cool huh?

The only problem is that they are a little BORING!  But that’s where I come in! 🙂

All you need are good quality napkins, mod podge and a tea light holder.  If you want a little sparkle you might also want a bottle of Folk Art Extreme Glitter paint.

Really good paper napkins have three layers. Remove the two plain layers so that all you have left is the decorative sheet. Don’t throw those plain layers away. There are other projects to use them on! 🙂

With a foam brush cover the tea light holder with Mod Podge. Then carefully place the napkin on top of the Mod Podge. You don’t want to stretch or pull the napkin because it will tear.

I found the easiest way to put the napkin on the tea light holder was to lay the napkin face down on the counter and then place the tea light holder, covered in Mod Podge, on one end the napkin and then slowly roll the tea light holder on the napkin causing the napkin to adhere to the tea light holder.

(Clear as mud, huh?)

Think of rolling a hot dog in a biscuit “Pig in a Blanket” style. Or a tortilla around filling when making a burrito.

(Clearer now?)

There will still be some wrinkles, which I like, but not so many that it distorts the images on the napkins, which I don’t like.

Let the Mod Podge dry and then seal the napkin in with a top coat of Mod Podge.

Let that dry and then trim the excess napkin from the tea light holder.

If you want a bit of sparkle (candle on the left) then give it a coat or two of Extreme Glitter.

I like the glitter for a Thanksgiving table setting. There wouldn’t be a flame to worry about, or reach over and there wouldn’t be any scent from a candle to compete with the delicious scents of the meal. Ya know?

Just remember that you can’t put a REAL tea light candle down inside or you have a BIG mess.

Thanks for the great idea. I have those flameless candles and they sure could use some decoration.
