If you follow Vicki O’Dell…The Creative Goddess on Facebook then you may know that my middle son is away at Marine bootcamp. When I was asked to create a couple of projects using Kraft Blok I immediately knew I wanted to do something patriotic…in his honor. So I made this American Flag Inspired Home Decor Project.
I used the smallest Krafty Blok, removed the label and cleaned it with window cleaner.
I made some free hand waves with Royal Blue Gallery Glass. I didn’t use any of the leading. Just the paint.
Let it dry for several hours or over night.
Then fill in the negative space with red waves. Let this dry overnight or even for a day or two so that the paint can set up.
Lay the block paint side down (after it’s COMPLETLY dry) on a piece of parchment or wax paper. Make sure the paper is completely smooth or it may make an indentation in your paint.
Cover the front of the block with star shaped stickers in various sizes (mine are from Darice). Burnish the edges of the stickers so that the frosted glass spray won’t seep underneath and then give it a coat or two of spray with Rust-Oleum Frosted Glass Spray. Don’t forget the sides!
Let dry completely.
With the edge of a craft knife or the point of a pin lift the edge of the stickers and peel them off slowly. Remove any sticker residue by rubbing with your thumb.
This project can be left as is and set in a window to catch the sun or be illuminated by a small clip light and sat in the Krafty Blok frame that is sold separately.
I made two of these. One I sent away and one I’m keeping for my patriotic decor this summer.
If you are thinking of purchasing some of the products I use to make Krafty Blok Glass Block Crafts, I hope you’ll consider purchasing from my affiliate links:
Vicki: might take me some time, but I will post a picture. I will have probably have to wait until 4th of July to get some ribbon. I am going to do several of them for gifts, all different. I am going to do a gold ribbon one and lay it like a present. Next week Michael’s has 50% coupons and hoping I can use them on the glass blocks.
I am going to do this for a gift for my friend, she is very patriotic and wants something she can have around the house all year. I would add a red/white/blue bow to the top however….and lights inside.
Hi Diane, I hope you’ll share a photo of your finished project! Feel free to share on my facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/TheCreativeGoddess 🙂
Very creative!
