I’d almost forgotten about Apple Walnut Squares until I was flipping through my tattered 2 ring binder of old recipe cards the other day. I haven’t made them in AGES. But here they are and I’m sharing the recipe with you.
As I was measuring out the oil I was amazed at how much of it this recipe calls for. I often replace the fat in a recipe with applesauce so I think I may be revamping this recipe soon. I just wonder if the applesauce with the sliced apples will be apple over kill?
Can’t hurt to try! 🙂
Apple Walnut Squares
3 eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 cup oil
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
6 apples – peeled and sliced
Combine eggs and salt – mix well. Add sugar and oil – mix well. Add flour cinnamon and baking soda.
Fold in apples and walnuts. Pour into a greased (or spay with Pam) and floured 9×13 inch pan.
Bake at 375° for 45-50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
