I have TWO children graduating from High School this year. Yes, two. My son and my step-daughter, best pals, hard workers and all around amazing people. They are my last two to graduate. Two down; the last two to go. THEN I’ll have three in college and one in the Marines. (sigh)
Anyway, I’ll stop bragging about my kids and tell you that I chose to make a graduation card suitable for a young man. I find it easier to make a paper craft project for girls as there are soooo many pretty papers and embellishments out there … but I was NEVER one to take the easy way out. :0)
I cut two squares of black cardstock larger than the top of the cube and then adhered them one on top of the other to make the mortar board sturdy. I then poked a hole in the center and adhered it to the top of the cube. The tassel is from a package of tassels meant for book markers. I pushed a piece of thread up through the hole in the top of the cube and the mortar board, over the loop of the tassel and then back down through the hole securing it underneath with tape. That way there wasn’t a lot of material inside the cube.
Then I put black and white photos on the sides of the cube. Photos of Shane as a young, silly boy and then again in his band uniform looking (almost) grown up.
And on this side, a photo of both grads. 🙂
Materials Used:
- DCWV MatchMaker Neutrals Cardstock – Black 1.25 sheets
- Twist Cube Die
Bookmark Tassel
Reminisce Graduation Stickers – mine are from a year or two ago. I used nearly the whole sheet and simply put it on the card the way they are on the sheet. I liked the look of all of them together as a background
Jolee’s dimensional stickers – again, older stock I had on hand.

You all are so wonderful and supportive. Thank you so much for your kind comments.
Karen, it’s a fabulous day when the designer of the die loves what you made with it! 🙂
Michelle, Graduation cards are hard but for a boy? geez! Next to impossible.
Amy, Thanks! That means a lot coming from YOU! 🙂
Love you all to bits!! 🙂
Really great idea! One of those “Why didn’t I think of that?” ideas!
Great idea to turn the cube into a grad hat! Love it!

A simple addition to add to make a very clever card!
Nice hat – great idea
Clever! I would never have thought of that and now I will! It’s often so hard to think of what kind of card to make a graduate…and you nailed it!
Vicki, I am SO not kidding when I say that I just jumped out of my chair and said “That is so awesome!” Never. Never would I though of this and it is, in a word, amazing. Pure, pure genius interpretation of this die. Thank you!
