I was going to call this post “Thrifting Thursday – Vintage Planter with Simply Swank Soldered Charms and All of My Zany Bathroom Decor” but I thought that was a little too long. 🙂
I found this vintage wall planter and passed it by a few times before picking it up and bringing it home with me.
I imagine that at one time there were some sort of decorative weights that hung down from the bottom of this. But those are LONG gone. I also imagine that the pocket portion held some kind of silk or “permanent botanical” flowers. But those are gone too. Probably just as well. I’d have tossed them more than likely.
I already had a soldering kit from Simply Swank but hadn’t tried it out yet. (I had never soldered before so this whole project was new and fun!)
Cuckoo clocks and solder? Yeah, I know… just hang in there a bit.
First I watched the DVD that I also got… because I have never soldered before in my entire life. And then I figured “What the heck!” and decided to give it a go.
Needs practice but a whole heck of a lot of fun! I dug out some beads, chain and ribbon and Viola!
I used my soldered pieces as the missing weights!
And now it hangs on a trellis that is in… my BATHROOM! Some people have storage over their toilets but I have a garden trellis, painted black and holding a bunch of things I love. I’m constantly adding and taking away.
This is another sample of my Simply Swank soldering using a piece of scalloped copper foil tape that my pal Jenny from Craft Test Dummies gave me. By the way, I truly loved that soldering kit. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to give soldering a try.
Don’t you just LOVE her!?!? Seriously. I LOVE HER!!
Antique stitchery and a travel souvenir.
A garden pretty and a Valentine’s Day decoration.
I made the facial tissue cover by covering an old plastic one with fabric, a flower, a brooch, some trim and hot stick rhinestones. I’ll have to give you the low down on doing that another time. It’s actually a cool project because you can hide your tissues in plain site by making a cover that coordinates with the decor.
I buy what I like, I make what I like and I decorate with almost all of it!! 🙂
