How to Use Watercolor Pencils and Rubber Stamps

When I was little and I got sick one of the things my mother did to keep me quiet(ish) was either hand me a coloring book with crayons or a pad of paper and a pencil.  I must have gone through TONS of paper when I was a kid because that was one of my favorite “busy” activities.

My folks said they couldn’t get me to watch TV… except for commercials.  My dad always told me how I’d play in my room until I heard a commercial then I’d race out, stand in front of the TV to watch it then go back to my room to play until the next one.  Anyway…

Today I spent some time doing a grown up version of coloring.

I stamped an image of a bird on watercolor paper using StazOn black ink.

Then I used watercolor pencils to add color.  Notice I left space between the colors for blending.

And then I used a fantastix by Tsukineko with a thimble of water to blend the colors together.  I love fantastix and use them for tons of things.  Watercolor, chalk, ink, paint, glue…you get the idea.

I took a picture of one of the birds and then scanned in two more.  All in all I probably did 8 of them.  They all look different even though I used the same colors on every one.  Crazy huh?

So, now what to do with all of the little guys.  Make a card, of course!

Here is one I did with a flower stamp.

And two more with a large music background stamp, water color, buttons, another stamp on the card in front and black paper punch outs on the card in back. Not bad for a sick day, huh?

Stamps are either Inkadinkado or Stampendous stamps.

I think they are beautiful! I used to color a lot when I was little. I like this grown-up version.

    Thank you for sharing!
