Here is an idea I got straight from the fabulous Jennifer Perkins over at the Naughty Secretary Club. She made Darling Doily Dishes and I thought they’d look great as Spider Web Bowls for Halloween goodies.
Here is how I made mine.
Supplies:
- Aleen’s Fabric Stiffener
- Folk Art Fabric Paint
- Doilies
- Plastic Bowl
- Gloves
- Plastic Wrap
- A bowl to drape the wet doily on
Mix the Fabric Stiffener and the paint.
I used almost a whole bottle of paint for the two doilies. Now would be a good time to put on the gloves!
Saturate the doily in the paint/stiffener mixture, making sure to cover the whole thing evenly. Squeegee off as much extra goop as you can and then drape it over a plastic wrap covered bowl.
Make sure the wrap goes beyond the bowl so that if your doily is a bit larger than the bowl your work area is protected. Don’t ask me how I know to tell you that! 🙂
Let it set over night to dry.
I think this would be great with a grey, silver or silver metallic fabric paint (I didn’t have any on hand). It might also look good with some silvery glitter to sparkle it up a bit. Anyway you make it, it’s useful, fun and a little unexpected. The candy eyeballs make it even more fun!
TypePad HTML EmailJennifer,
Thanks! It was a great idea. Goes to show how we can all inspire one another.
