I recently saw a post on the Resin Crafts blog asking for designers to design in a new watch bezel for the upcoming Winter CHA show so I signed up to receive one.
I was crazy about the bezels the minute I saw them.
The back looks like a well worn and much loved timepiece from the past.
The thing that really grabbed my imagination was the inside of the bezel, it’s deep and has sloping sides.
Perfect for a technique I’ve been wanting to try.
The idea was to create the bezel with sand under a barrier and then add resin on top so that the sand still moves around under the resin.
I came REALLY close to pulling it off but my technique needs a little tweaking.
The sand doesn’t move in this one and it’s a little “foggy” in a couple of places around the edge but it’s SO CLOSE.
On the other hand, I LOVE that the whole thing looks like a snapshot in TIME (see what I did there?). Walking along a beach and finding treasures in the sand and water. There is something kind of sweet and magical about it. Like a memory from a favorite vacation.
Gosh, I want to re-do this one so badly! I can’t help myself.
I’m so close!
Most bezels are very shallow making it difficult to get crazy with layering so I’m dying to get my hands on more of these bezels so I can work on this idea some more.
I’ll let you know as I improve the technique.
Have you found a new product lately that inspired you to do some experimenting? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
