I made this snowman card several years ago and thought I would make a few more for this year. The only difference is that I wanted to play around with creating the background to see what I could come up with.
I came up with three ways to create those white snowflakes on the dark blue background.
I made the card the first time using bleach for the snowflakes. Then I tried the paint dauber and finally I did an embossed snowflake background.
Supplies:
- Blue Cardstock
- White Cardstock
- Paper trimmer
- Card blank or white cardstock to create the card base
- Snowflake stamp
- Snowman stamp
- Adirondack Acrylic Paint Dabber, bleach, or embossing ink and white embossing powder
- Embossing Ink and Silver Embossing powder
- Tape runner or other paper adhesive
- Heat tool for embossing
Instructions:
1. Cut the base cardstock to 5 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches. Fold in half to create the card base. Or, you can use an already made card base.
2. Cut a piece of blue cardstock to 4 inches by 4 3/4 inches.
3. Fold a paper towel into a small square and set it inside a shallow dish – I used the lid of a butter container. Drop a bit of bleach onto the paper towel and let it absorb. Add more if needed. The paper towel doesn’t need to be drenched, but damp enough to wet the stamp.
4. “Ink” the snowflake stamp with the bleach and randomly stamp the image on the blue cardstock. The bleach will slowly bleach out the cardstock.
Optional – ink the stamp with an acrylic paint dauber or ink the stamp with embossing ink and then use embossing powder as you normally would. When using embossing ink and embossing powder, you will stamp all of the snowflakes quickly and then sprinkle on embossing powder before the ink dries.
5. Adhere the snowflake background to the center of the card.
6. Cut a white piece of cardstock to 2 1/2 inches by 3 inches.
7. Stamp the snowman with embossing ink and then with embossing powder. Heat to create an embossed image.
8. Adhere to the center of the blue cardstock.
Either way you choose to do the background these are super fun and easy to make. I like that they can be sent out all winter long – no matter the reason.
Do you make cards? What was the last thing you made a card for?
I think like the card with the brightest snowflakes the best but all of them are pretty.
