Spring Grapevine and Pom Pom Wreath

Spring has finally arrived here in NE Ohio in all her soggy glory. I don’t mind the rain because it is what makes our area so amazingly green but it is keeping me out of the garden. And that’s a bummer.

If you can’t be in the garden you may as well be in the craft store. That’s a thing, right?

I found this little gnome and mushrooms while browsing around in a Michael’s craft store one afternoon and knew I had to make something with them.

Sometimes when I see things and feel the need to have them they end up coming home and being added to my horde stash. Not this guy. He was too good to keep hidden away.

I also grabbed the yarn and grapevine wreath while I was there. I had an idea!

You’ll need:

  • Grapevine wreath
  • Yarn – two or more shades of green
  • Gnome
  • Mushroom
  • Pattiewack Pom Pom Tool
  • Scissors
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Baker’s Twine
  • Washi Tape – various designs

Directions:

  1. Create several pom poms – I made mine in two different sizes – to get started.
  2. Place a few pom poms in places on the grapevine wreath to figure out where you want them and then glue them in place
  3. Add more pom poms, the gnome and mushrooms until the wreath looks the way you want it to.
  4. Create a banner by cutting a length of baker’s twine 4-6 inches wider than the inside of the wreath. Fold washi tape in half over the twine and cut to a point. Keep adding until the banner is as long as you want.
  5. Tie or glue the banner in place on the wreath.

The most time consuming part of this is making the pom poms but you can easily make the basic shapes while watching television. I waited until I could be in my studio and work over a trashcan before I cut them and shaped them for the final pom poms.
