It may come as a surprise to you to learn that I’m kind of a junkie. A magazine junkie. I used to read books. Real, thick, books that took days to read. But then I had kids and life got way too busy to sit around reading a whole book. By the time I could get back to it I’d forgotten who half of the characters were!
That is when magazines became my go-to reading material. And I read TONS of them! Which is why I needed this DIY Magazine Display in my house.
Also, I enjoy magazines because there is one for nearly every niche, hobby or industry you can imagine.
Also, they have pretty pictures. And I’m a visual kind of gal.
Supplies:
- 8 dowel rods
- 8 feet of chain cut in half
- Gold spray paint
- Drill with small drill bit
- Screws
- S hook
IF you are wondering where the heck to get this kind of heavy chain, I found it at my local hardware store. We have one of those old time-y hardware stores with the creaky wood floors. I love that place!
Instructions:
- Drill a tiny pilot hole in the end of each dowel rod with the drill and bit.
- I got the man at the hardware store to cut the chain in half when he cut the 8 feet off for me.
- Lay the chain out on the ground so that it’s about a foot apart and lying parallel – like railroad tracks.
- Evenly space the dowel rods along the chain but leave a little extra space at the top to ensure that the two ends will meet and slip onto the S hook.
- Screw the dowel rods in place, through the loops of the chain, to create a ladder.
- Put the S hook through the top two loops of the chain to connect them and allow for hanging.
- Spray paint, that bit is optional, and let dry.
To use simply open the magazines near the center and drape over the dowel rod. I like this display idea because it’s easy to pick up a magazine on my way to the back yard or porch where I can now read uninterrupted WITH a cup of something nice to drink.
Don’t worry you young mothers out there – your day will come.
I also like that they are right out there for any of my adult kids or other visitors to pick up and browse through too.
Having an assortment of magazines on hand ensures that I’m entertained without having my face in a screen 24/7. Also, I buy myself magazines as treats instead of junk food. I still like that I can read an article in a short amount of time and then move on to something else. I’m always learning new things!
