Easter Bunny Canvas for the Mantle

As you know, I’m a gal who loves me some color.

Needless to say, I don’t love the pastel colors that most spring and Easter items come in so I have to make my own decor. COLORIZED! Like this Easter bunny canvas.

I definitely had a little fun with color making these elements for my Easter mantle.

First off, the cast iron birds started out looking like this but with a little help from Krylon spray paint even they got a dose of bright color.

I used ColorMaster in Watermelon, Citrus and Blue Ocean Breeze.

To make the canvas I downloaded the super cute Sweet Easter Bunny Set from the Silhouette Store and cut out the bunnies as shown. 1 huge one, 2 large, 2 medium and 2 small. My largest is just a bit over 11 inches tall with the others being around 9.5, 8, 7 and 6.5 inches tall. Give or take.

I had written down my exact measurements but then cleaned off my desk. OOPS!

You’ll also need:

  • 15×30″ canvas – I got mine at Jo-Ann”s
  • Martha Stewart Crafts Multi-Surface paint – Surf
  • 7 fat quarters – also from Jo-Ann’s in bright jelly bean colors
  • Wool Yarn – Jo-Ann’s
  • PattieWack PomPom Tool  – Also seen here Bohemian Pom Pom Bracelet with the PattieWack PomPom Tool
  • Mod Podge – Matte finish

  1. Cover the entire canvas with Martha Stewart Paint and set aside to dry.
  2. Cut the bunnies according to the above (or desired) measurements on scrapbook paper and use that as a pattern. (I imagine you can cut the bunnies directly on the fabric like you can with a Cricut but I didn’t have any material to stabilize the fabric on hand)
  3. Adhere the bunnies to the canvas with Mod Podge and let dry.
  4. Make bunny tails with wool yarn and the Pattie Wack Pom Pom maker leaving a tail on the tie-off thread of 3-4 inches. Trim them so they vary in size.
  5. Once the canvas and fabric are completely dry – poke a hole where the tails go with an awl.
  6. Feed the pom pom tie-off thread though the hole and tie a knot. Repeat for each bunny.

That’s it!

Now I have to climb up into the attic and find the rest of my Easter decor items so I can finish off this mantle.
EDIT:
I found them! I found my exact measurements for the bunnies so that you can duplicate them in the Silhouette software.
Huge center bunny = 11.045 x 7.470
Large bunnies 10.250 x 6.935
Medium bunnies 9.300 x 6.290
Small bunnies 7.990 x 5.405
