I’m not sure who coined that phrase “the lazy days of summer” but I’m pretty sure they never had a yard. Or a garden. Or even an old house. There has been NOTHING lazy about my summer.
I’m 50/50 for my garden experiments. The potatoes are growing fantastically but the strawberries all got eaten. Darn chipmunks!
Did you know that potato plants developed such pretty little flowers?
I gave up on having the strawberries where they were (since they got eaten up anyway!) and moved them to my NEW Berry Garden. Yes, I started ANOTHER garden. This one just for berries.
It’s smaller (almost half the size) of the straw bale garden and has raspberries, blueberries, goji, current and gooseberries. The raised portion will have strawberries in it next year. YAY, BERRIES!
I am turning the spot where the blueberries were into another of what I’m calling a “kitchen garden”. So now I have Kitchen Garden North and Kitchen Garden South which is in its very early stages yet. I love that I’ll have two beds full of herbs not too far from the back door. I feel some yummy new recipes coming.
But first, lots of planning so I plant things we’ll really love in them.
The rest of the straw bale garden is doing well except for one type of bean ‘Kentucky Wonder Pole’ and the onions. They don’t look like they are doing much at all.
Something tells me that when these Roma Tomatoes start to ripen that I’m going to be even busier!
You have a beautiful yard and gardens!!! So many wonderful foods!!!
I know what you’re talking about Vicki! I’ve been canning salsa, tomato juice, pickles and relish and putting a lot of yellow squash up in the freezer. It takes an awful lot of time and work.
