Sometimes my ideas are fantastic and they work out really well. This latest one however has turned into nothing short of madness. Definitely not my easiest or cheapest plan. You see, I have this working idea rolling around in my head about “gardening in place”.
Actually, I should call this “Straw Bale Garden and Then Some”. Because YOU KNOW I expanded it again. Sheesh! Glutton for punishment!
I did some research and found that I shouldn’t plant my potato seedlings in straw bales but I wondered what would happen if I tried growing potatoes in straw that was broken down.
That connection is what I think I love most about the gardening life. Feeling the wheel of the year roll onward. It’s rather magical.
I’m not sure who coined that phrase “the lazy days of summer” but I’m pretty sure they never had a yard. Or a garden. Or even an old house. There has been NOTHING lazy about my summer.
This year my time in the straw bale garden is a whole different thing. You can’t MAKE me go inside. I’m bloody, bruised and sun burned but I’ve never been happier.
