My Thrift Store Haul #19

Thrift Store Haul

I made myself a promise late last year.

The promise was that I wouldn’t visit the thrift store every week and that I would only bring home things I could use right away.

No more bringing things home to use some day.

Because, you know, I find something really good nearly every time I go and it’s starting to get a little scary around here.

So earlier this spring I did a little cleaning and purging. I used up some of the things I had brought home in the past and gifted or re-donated other items.

I let a lot go in the name of space, cleanliness and sanity.

Last week I felt that a visit to one of my favorite shops was in order. You know, as kind of a reward.

But I still only wanted to bring in things that I really loved and that I would use.

I found this print for $7 (was $15) and the handmade paper mache elephant for $12 (was $22).

That elephant fits my new studio PERFECTLY and the print is going on my mantle for this summer.

I have a thing for children’s chairs. This sweet little thing was totally meant for me. I love the size, the style and even the color.

For $7 I couldn’t leave it behind.

And look, if I use it to hold flowers on the front step then it’s not even in the house.

So it’s not like it even counts against my promise because I’m putting it to use right away.

Right?

Are you a thrift shop junkie? What was in your latest thrift store haul?

Oh, and, yes, Vicki, that little chair was a great find–and you put it to very good use.

Hi, all, I’m at the stage in my life when I’m CONTRIBUTING to thrift shops to help me downsize, de-clutter, and organize. Enough is enough. Between my congregation and a local charity, I am able to find folks who can make good use of perfectly good household items. Hard to give away some things because of sentimental value, but I’m trying to discipline myself to save one (okay, maybe two) items to represent a whole lot of items.

It seems half my house is furnished with thrift store or garage sale items. The biggest item was last year when I found a pastel pull out Lazy Boy sofa bed in very good condition. It still sits in my living room and is where my kids sleep when they come to visit. The latest was file folders, hanging folders, and a bag of paper clips (one of the paper clips is 7 inches long) all in current use. Next trip I need some dishes to replace broken ones, a nightstand, and some chairs for the living room. And you’re right, that chair is perfect!

I love going to thrift stores, flea markets and yard sales. I recently bought a whole set of rose dishes that I would love to use the roses in some jewelry ( If my kids don’t snatch it). I also found a pair of candlesticks that I plan on using to hold gourd oil lamps.
